Yemeni forces claim Houthi attack repelled in Taiz
Yemen’s government announced a new offensive against Houthi positions on Tuesday, and the fighting has intensified over the following days. Government forces have reportedly launched airstrikes and ground operations in the Saada and Hajjah provinces, targeting Houthi‑held bases and supply routes.
In response, Houthi fighters have fired rockets and artillery shells into government‑controlled towns, causing civilian casualties and prompting the displacement of thousands of residents. The Saudi‑led coalition has increased its air support for the Yemeni army, while the United Nations has called for an immediate cease‑fire to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian aid.
The continued escalation highlights the fragile state of the peace process in Yemen. As hostilities persist, international actors remain concerned about the humanitarian impact and the potential for further destabilisation in the region.
