Yemen's oil export prospects hindered by security concerns
Yemen’s proven oil reserves are estimated at roughly three billion barrels, according to the latest figures released by the country’s Ministry of Oil and Minerals. The resource base, which could position Yemen as a modest regional oil producer, remains largely untapped because the nation’s security situation continues to impede the development of export infrastructure and the safe transport of crude.
Ongoing conflict between Houthi forces, government troops and allied militias has led to frequent disruptions of pipelines, port closures and heightened risk for foreign investors. As a result, production levels stay well below potential, and the government has been unable to secure the stable export channels required for commercial sales. Analysts note that without a durable cease‑fire and reconstruction of oil‑related facilities, Yemen’s reserves are unlikely to contribute significantly to global supply in the near term.
