Yemen health workers work to contain dengue outbreak

Health officials across the affected region are intensifying efforts to curb a surge in cases of a mosquito‑borne disease that has shown a marked increase in recent weeks. The Ministry of Health confirmed that reported infections have risen sharply, prompting authorities to declare the situation a public‑health priority and to mobilise additional resources for containment.

In response, health workers are conducting widespread vector‑control operations, including larvicide spraying and the removal of standing water in urban and rural communities. Surveillance teams are expanding testing sites and accelerating case reporting, while public‑information campaigns urge residents to use protective measures such as insect repellent and window screens. The disease, which typically peaks during the rainy season, has strained local clinics, leading to temporary expansions of treatment facilities and the deployment of mobile health units to underserved areas.

Officials emphasized that sustained community participation and continued funding for preventive actions are essential to reverse the upward trend. Ongoing monitoring will determine whether the current interventions succeed in stabilising infection rates and preventing further spread.
