Yemen government reports Houthi strikes hit residential areas in Marib

Yemen’s Ministry of Information on Tuesday condemned the recent wave of air and artillery strikes on the eastern province of Marib, describing the assaults as an “escalation” that endangers civilian lives and deepens the humanitarian crisis in the war‑torn country. The ministry’s statement came after local officials reported a series of attacks that targeted residential neighborhoods, market areas and critical infrastructure, including power lines and water facilities, intensifying fears of displacement and shortages for the province’s roughly one‑million inhabitants.

The Ministry said the attacks, which it attributed to the Houthi rebel movement, have resulted in dozens of casualties, including women and children, and have further strained the already limited medical and emergency response capacities in Marib. International observers have warned that the heightened fighting risks expanding the conflict’s front lines and complicating ongoing peace negotiations, while humanitarian agencies stress that the growing insecurity hampers aid delivery to an area already facing food insecurity and limited access to basic services. The ministry called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law to prevent further loss of life.
