Yemen foreign minister says Houthis aim to replicate Iran's Hormuz control in Red Sea

Riyadh – In a statement delivered in the Saudi capital, officials of Yemen’s internationally recognised government cautioned that a perceived lack of decisive international action has encouraged the Houthi movement to intensify its military operations. The spokesperson, representing the government seated in Aden, warned that global complacency risks further destabilising an already fragile security environment across Yemen and the broader Red Sea region.

The warning follows a series of recent Houthi missile and drone strikes targeting commercial shipping lanes, oil facilities and civilian infrastructure, actions that have drawn condemnation from the United Nations and prompted limited retaliatory measures by coalition forces. Humanitarian agencies have reported escalating displacement and food insecurity as conflict dynamics worsen, underscoring the call for a coordinated diplomatic and security response. The Yemeni government urged the international community to adopt a more proactive stance to deter additional aggression and to support ongoing peace initiatives aimed at a political settlement.
