Yemen conflict escalates, raising regional concerns

Oliver Farry announced the arrival of Jules Grange Gastinel, a researcher with the Institute for Research and Studies on the Arab and Muslim World (IREMAM), during a recent briefing on Middle‑East security. Gastinel’s analysis characterises Yemen’s trajectory as shifting from a prolonged phase of unresolved internal conflict toward a renewed period of regional confrontation, highlighting the fragility of the relative calm that followed the 2022 ceasefire efforts.

According to Gastinel, the post‑2022 lull never produced a durable political settlement; instead, Yemen remains fragmented among competing political, financial and military institutions. This persistent division, he warned, creates conditions conducive to broader regional tensions, underscoring the need for sustained diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
