Yemen conflict displaces nearly 100,000 and disrupts aid shipments

The United Nations reported on Tuesday that the recent escalation of fighting in Yemen has severely disrupted humanitarian aid routes and forced nearly 100,000 people to flee their homes since the violence intensified earlier this month. UN agencies, including the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the UN Refugee Agency, said that the heightened hostilities have blocked key sea and land corridors used to deliver food, medicine and other essential supplies, leaving millions of civilians at heightened risk of famine and disease.

The surge in displacement has also pushed a growing number of Yemenis across the Red Sea into neighboring Djibouti, where temporary shelters are already strained by existing refugee populations. Officials in Djibouti warned that the influx could overwhelm local resources and complicate ongoing relief efforts. The UN emphasized that renewed access for aid convoys and a de‑escalation of combat are critical to prevent further humanitarian deterioration and to enable displaced families to return safely to their communities.
