Xbox outage prevents playing digital and disc games
An extended Xbox outage that began Sunday evening has disrupted more than just digital game downloads, affecting users’ ability to play both digital and disc‑based titles. The company’s status page first flagged the outage at about 11 p.m. ET on Sunday, noting that the service was down for login, app launches, and browsing the Xbox Store. By Monday morning, the page warned that users might experience problems running games they own, whether purchased digitally or on disc, a claim that was quickly echoed on social media.
Reports from users and a brief test by The Verge’s Richard Lawler confirmed that while some digital games could still be launched, attempts to start Game Pass titles triggered errors. The outage also prevented players from logging in or accessing the store, effectively halting all gaming activity on the platform until the issue is resolved. The Verge will continue to monitor the situation and report on any updates from Microsoft.
