Patrick Ewing, the Hall of Fame center and former Georgetown and New York Knicks star, has agreed to join the Washington Wizards as an assistant coach under head coach Brian Keefe, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN. The move marks Ewing’s return to the NBA coaching ranks after a decade-long hiatus from the sidelines, following his tenure as the Knicks’ head coach from 2018 to 2020. The Wizards, seeking to strengthen their front office and coaching staff, will welcome Ewing’s veteran leadership and deep understanding of the game, particularly his expertise in developing big men and defensive schemes.

Ewing, a three-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection and 1985 NBA Finals MVP, brings over 30 years of NBA experience to the Wizards. His playing career included 19 seasons with the Knicks and a brief stint with the Seattle SuperSonics, alongside a decorated college career at Georgetown where he led the Hoyas to three national championships. As a coach, he previously served as an assistant with the Knicks before taking over as their head coach, where he navigated the team through a period of transition.
