Wildfires Near Bordeaux Force Evacuations in France and Spain

A wildfire erupted in southwest France on Sunday, igniting roughly 15 kilometres from Bordeaux and prompting a coordinated response from French and Spanish emergency services. The blaze is part of a broader series of fires that have swept across both nations, displacing an estimated 300,000 residents and stretching resources thin as authorities work to contain the rapidly spreading flames.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez called the situation in Bordeaux “unprecedented,” while Spain’s Avila region reported its most severe fire in recent history. Officials continue to deploy personnel and equipment to the affected zones, emphasizing that containment efforts remain a priority as communities grapple with the humanitarian impact of the widespread evacuations.
