Wildfire Smoke Turns Toronto Skies Orange

Wildfire smoke drifting from large fires in the western part of the continent has turned the skies over Toronto and much of Ontario a vivid orange, officials said on Tuesday. The discoloration, visible across the Greater Toronto Area and extending to cities such as Ottawa, Hamilton and London, is the result of fine particulate matter and gases carried eastward by prevailing winds, according to Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

Air‑quality monitors recorded pollutant levels that prompted health advisories from provincial health units, urging residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activity and keep windows closed where possible. The agencies continue to track the smoke plume’s movement and will update the public as conditions evolve, while fire‑fighting crews remain engaged in containment efforts at the source of the blazes.
