West Bank school adds barbed wire after three student deaths amid rising settler attacks

A headteacher at a primary school in the occupied West Bank has ordered the installation of new barbed‑wire fencing around the campus after three students were killed in separate incidents earlier this year. The school, located in a settlement area near the city of Hebron, had previously relied on a modest perimeter fence, but the recent fatalities prompted administrators to seek heightened security measures to protect pupils and staff.

According to local education officials, the new barrier, which stretches approximately 300 metres and includes reinforced wire and warning signs, was erected within a week of the latest tragedy. Authorities said the decision reflects growing concerns over violence in the region, where clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian residents have escalated. The headteacher emphasized that the fencing is intended solely as a deterrent against accidental entry by armed groups and to reassure parents, while the Ministry of Education confirmed that the school will continue regular classes under the enhanced security arrangement.
