Venezuela Acting President Stresses Sovereignty Over Oil Reserves
Acting President Delcy Rodriguez announced that Venezuela’s strategy is to transform the country’s underground resources into a “source of social and economic well‑being for the people of Venezuela.” Speaking at a press briefing in Caracas, Rodriguez emphasized that the government’s focus would be on harnessing oil, natural gas and mineral deposits to fund public services and stimulate domestic employment.
Rodriguez’s remarks come after the National Assembly, which declared itself the legitimate governing body following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the opposition’s claim to the presidency. She outlined plans to strengthen state control over key sectors, increase investment in infrastructure, and redirect revenue from resource extraction toward health, education and rural development programs. The administration also pledged to improve transparency and reduce corruption in the management of natural resources.
The statement signals a renewed emphasis on domestic economic recovery amid ongoing sanctions and political uncertainty. While the approach aims to boost social welfare, its success will depend on Venezuela’s ability to secure financing, modernize extraction technologies and maintain political stability in the months ahead.
