VARs Stood Down After Wrongly Confirming Haaland's Goal

The Premier League has announced that Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials Matt Donohue and his assistant Blake Antrobus will not be assigned to any matches during the upcoming weekend. The decision follows a review of the Sunday game in which their decisions allowed Erling Haaland’s winning goal in the Manchester derby. Pro Ref, the governing body for match officials, confirmed that the pair have not received appointments for the round of fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb, together with his management team, carried out the review and deemed the VAR decisions a “judgment error.” As a result, Donohue and Antrobus have been stood down pending a reassessment of their availability after the international break. The league has not yet indicated whether the officials will return to duty in the next round of matches.
