Uzbekistan Faces 48°C Heatwave, Trains Slow, Vehicles Restricted

Authorities have taken emergency measures as an unusually intense heatwave pushes temperatures to 48 °C in several regions of the country. The extreme heat, recorded as one of the highest in recent decades, prompted officials to intervene in public services and transportation to mitigate health risks and infrastructure strain.

In response, metro operators reduced train speeds to prevent overheating of equipment, while traffic regulators imposed restrictions on heavy vehicles to lessen road wear and reduce the risk of accidents on hot surfaces. Additionally, kindergartens were temporarily closed to protect young children from heat‑related illnesses.
