US Strikes 3 Iranian Oil Carriers in Response to Navy Attacks

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday that it had carried out air and naval strikes against several Iranian crude‑oil carriers in the Persian Gulf. The action was taken in retaliation for what CENTCOM described as “multiple unprovoked” attacks on two U.S. Navy warships by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the region.

According to the command, the strikes permanently disabled three of the IRGC’s oil carriers located near Kharg Island and in the wider Gulf of Oman. The U.S. military said the vessels were targeted because they were believed to be used to transport weapons and supplies to Iranian-backed militias. The operation was conducted without any reported casualties among U.S. personnel.

CENTCOM’s statement underscores the growing tensions in the Gulf, with the U.S. citing the need to deter further aggression against its forces.
