US Secretary of State says Iran faces serious challenges

Washington – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters on Tuesday that Iran is facing “a lot of trouble” as a result of its continued nuclear activities and regional destabilization efforts. The remarks came during a press briefing in which Blinken outlined the administration’s strategy of sustained diplomatic pressure and expanded sanctions, noting that Tehran’s recent breaches of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have eroded the limited trust that existed between the two sides. He highlighted that the United States, together with European allies, is prepared to impose additional economic measures targeting Iran’s oil exports, banking sector, and key individuals linked to the Revolutionary Guard.

Blinken added that the growing tension in the Middle East, including Iran’s support for proxy groups and its ballistic‑missile development, further compounds the challenges confronting Tehran. He urged Iran to return to compliance with the nuclear agreement and to engage in constructive dialogue, warning that failure to do so would lead to “more severe consequences” for its economy and international standing. The State Department said the United States remains committed to a diplomatic solution but will not hesitate to use all tools at its disposal to curb Tehran’s destabilizing behavior.
