US launches new strikes amid Iran's security warning

Tehran’s chief negotiator for the nuclear talks, Mohammad Reza Rahimi, warned that without a clear guarantee of Iran’s security, the country’s critical infrastructure would remain vulnerable. Speaking at a briefing for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Rahimi emphasized that any agreement must address Iran’s concerns about external threats and the protection of its energy, transportation, and communication networks.

The comment comes amid stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, where the United States and the European Union have insisted on tighter safeguards and a phased approach to lifting sanctions. Iranian officials argue that security guarantees are a prerequisite for compliance, citing past incidents where infrastructure was targeted during regional conflicts. The IAEA has urged both sides to find a middle ground that balances non‑proliferation objectives with Iran’s sovereignty and safety concerns.

If the parties cannot reach a consensus on security provisions, Tehran warns that the nation’s infrastructure could be exposed to sabotage or cyber attacks, potentially disrupting essential services.
