US launches eighth consecutive night of strikes on Iran, president mourns soldiers killed in Jordan

Washington – President Joe Biden described the recent loss of U.S. service members in Jordan as “a sad thing” while confirming that U.S. forces have conducted airstrikes against Iranian targets for the eighth consecutive night. The statement came after a joint U.S.–Jordanian operation on the Jordanian‑Iranian border resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers and two Jordanian troops during a clash with militia fighters linked to Tehran.

The strikes, authorized by the Pentagon on Thursday, have focused on Iranian air defense installations and command‑and‑control sites in eastern Iran, a response the U.S. says follows a series of missile attacks on U.S. bases in the region. Iran’s foreign ministry condemned the attacks as “unprovoked aggression,” while NATO allies called for restraint and urged diplomatic channels to de‑escalate the situation. The United Nations Security Council is slated to meet later this week to discuss the growing tension.
