US envoys arrive in Kyiv to discuss peace objectives

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff, the assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, and Jared Kushner, the former senior advisor to President Trump, landed in Kyiv on Sunday for their first official visit to Ukraine. Their arrival marks a renewed diplomatic effort to advance a negotiated settlement more than four and a half years after Russia launched a full‑scale invasion of the country.

During the trip, the envoys met with Ukrainian officials and discussed the prospects for a cease‑fire and a comprehensive peace framework. The visit follows a series of U.S. initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s security and supporting its sovereignty. In a briefing with the Atlantic Council, John E. Herbst, director of the Eurasia Center, noted that the U.S. is seeking to coordinate with European partners and regional stakeholders to create a viable path to de-escalation while maintaining pressure on Moscow to comply with international law.

The Kyiv trip underscores Washington’s continued commitment to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the broader goal of ending hostilities.
