US and Iran to set up communication channel for MOU breach discussions

Tehran announced that it will set up a dedicated “communication channel” with Washington to report and discuss any alleged breaches of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) governing the nuclear cooperation framework between the two countries. The move, disclosed by Iran’s foreign ministry in a statement on Monday, is intended to provide a formal mechanism for both sides to raise concerns, exchange information and seek clarification on compliance issues without resorting to public accusations or diplomatic escalations.

The establishment of the channel follows a series of recent disputes over the implementation of the MoU, which was signed in 2022 to replace the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action after the United States withdrew from the original agreement. Both governments have accused each other of violating specific provisions, ranging from limits on uranium enrichment to sanctions relief. By creating a direct line of communication, officials hope to reduce misunderstandings and maintain the stability of the nuclear arrangement while preserving broader diplomatic engagement.
