UN seeks $300 million for Venezuela earthquake survivors as death toll reaches 3,889

The United Nations has announced a humanitarian appeal of approximately $300 million to support survivors of the recent earthquakes that struck Venezuela, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The appeal follows a series of tremors that caused significant loss of life, injuries, and extensive damage to homes, health facilities, and critical infrastructure across several states.

The funding request targets immediate relief and longer‑term recovery, with allocations for emergency shelter, medical assistance, clean water, sanitation, and the reconstruction of damaged public services. OCHA will coordinate the response together with UN agencies such as the World Food Programme, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization, as well as local authorities and non‑governmental partners, to ensure that aid reaches the most affected communities promptly.

The UN urges donor governments, private sector entities, and humanitarian foundations to contribute to the appeal, emphasizing that the pledged resources are essential for preventing further deterioration of living conditions and for facilitating a sustainable rebuilding process for the earthquake‑hit regions of Venezuela.
