UN reports rising hunger for over 100,000 displaced in Sudan’s El Obeid

UN humanitarian agencies operating in Sudan’s conflict‑ridden regions reported on Friday that the needs of more than 100,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltering in camps around the city of El Obeid are escalating rapidly. The displaced population, forced from their homes by ongoing fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, now faces acute shortages of food, clean water, medical supplies and adequate shelter as the conflict intensifies and access to the area becomes increasingly precarious.

Aid coordinators said that limited funding, disrupted supply routes and security constraints are hampering the delivery of essential services, prompting urgent appeals for additional resources and safe corridors for humanitarian workers. The UN and partner NGOs emphasized that without a swift expansion of assistance, the humanitarian situation in El Obeid could deteriorate further, underscoring the need for heightened international support to address the growing crisis.
