UN reports deteriorating security on Lebanon-Israel Blue Line amid Israeli military buildup

UN peacekeepers operating along the Blue Line that separates Lebanon and Israel have reported a marked deterioration in security conditions, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said on Thursday. The observers noted that Israeli forces have expanded their military presence in the area, a development the United Nations characterises as a breach of a landmark Security Council resolution that calls for restraint and the maintenance of the demarcation line.

The escalation, described by the UN as a violation of the council’s directives, raises concerns about the stability of the already fragile cease‑fire between the two neighbours. The United Nations has called for an immediate de‑escalation and for all parties to respect the terms of the resolution to prevent further deterioration of the situation along the Blue Line.
