UN report warns climate nearing safe temperature limits, urges immediate action

The assessment, which synthesizes data from meteorological agencies worldwide, notes that global average temperatures are edging closer to the 1.5°C limit set by the Paris Agreement, while the frequency and intensity of heat extremes and flood-related disasters have risen sharply over the past decade.

The report emphasizes that immediate and amplified climate mitigation efforts could still prevent the worst outcomes projected for the coming decades. It calls for accelerated reductions in greenhouse‑gas emissions, expanded deployment of renewable energy, and stronger adaptation measures to protect vulnerable populations.
