UN analysis: 253,000 Haitian children at risk of acute malnutrition in 2026-27

A United Nations‑backed analysis released this week warns that Haiti’s child malnutrition crisis is set to intensify, projecting that 253,725 children between six months and 59 months of age will experience acute malnutrition from June 2026 through May 2027. The forecast, compiled by UN agencies in partnership with local partners, reflects a sharp rise in severe food insecurity across the country, driven by prolonged economic instability, recurring natural disasters and disruptions to health and nutrition services.

The assessment underscores the urgency of scaling up humanitarian assistance, noting that without a coordinated response the number of affected children could surpass previous peaks recorded during the 2021‑2022 emergency. International donors and aid organizations are being urged to mobilize resources for targeted nutrition programs, therapeutic feeding centers and supply chains to mitigate the projected surge and prevent further loss of life among Haiti’s most vulnerable population.
