Ukraine warns of winter power shortage after Russian strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Saturday that the country is heading into a winter with virtually no operational thermal power plants after a series of overnight Russian strikes killed four people, including a three‑year‑old child. The attacks, which targeted energy infrastructure and residential areas, underscore the growing strain on Ukraine’s ability to provide heat and electricity as temperatures drop.

Speaking in Belgrade, Zelensky noted that the latest strikes and the shelling of frontline communities have resulted in 13 deaths within a 24‑hour period. He highlighted the urgent humanitarian and logistical challenges posed by the loss of power generation capacity, urging international partners to accelerate assistance to prevent a severe energy crisis during the coming months.
