Ukraine faces Patriot interceptor shortage as Russian strike ignites fire at port

Kyiv has warned that its Patriot air‑defence batteries are facing an acute shortage of interceptor missiles, a shortfall that began after the United States escalated its military involvement against Iran in February. Ukrainian officials said the depletion of stocks has reduced the operational tempo of the systems that protect key cities and critical infrastructure from Russian missile and drone attacks.

The shortage, Ukrainian defence ministry sources said, stems from a shift in U.S. arms‑export priorities as Washington redirected production capacity and logistical support to meet the heightened demand for munitions in the Middle East. While the United States continues to supply other weaponry to Kyiv, the limited availability of Patriot interceptors has forced Ukrainian forces to rely more heavily on alternative short‑range air‑defence assets. Kyiv has appealed to its allies for additional interceptors or expedited deliveries to restore the full capability of its Patriot batteries and sustain its defensive posture against ongoing Russian aggression.
