UK leader pledges cruise missile designs to Ukraine during Kyiv visit

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, acting as the United Kingdom’s first foreign envoy of the new administration, arrived in Kyiv on Monday for a two‑day visit that marked his inaugural overseas trip. During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Burnham announced that the UK would share detailed design specifications for its latest cruise‑missile systems with Ukraine, a step intended to bolster Kyiv’s defensive capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The pledge follows a series of British military aid packages that have included artillery, air‑defence systems and training support. Officials said the shared designs would enable Ukrainian engineers to produce or adapt similar weapons domestically, accelerating the country’s self‑sufficiency in precision strike assets. Both governments welcomed the agreement as a deepening of bilateral security cooperation, and Burnham concluded the visit by affirming continued UK commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and reconstruction efforts.
