UK Christians call on Church of England to recognize Gaza genocide

UK Christians have called on the Church of England’s General Synod to adopt a motion that would formally engage with the upcoming Kairos Palestine II conference. The petition, signed by clergy and lay members from a range of dioceses, urges the Synod to recognise the gathering as an opportunity for dialogue on the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict and to commit resources to supporting its objectives of reconciliation, justice and peace.

Kairos Palestine II, scheduled for later this year, is a follow‑up to the 2014 Kairos Palestine gathering and seeks to bring together Palestinian Christian leaders, international faith representatives and human‑rights organisations to address the humanitarian and theological implications of the occupation. Proponents of the motion argue that the Church of England, as a global Anglican body, has a moral responsibility to participate in such initiatives, while the Synod’s decision will signal the church’s stance on a contentious geopolitical issue. The motion is expected to be debated at the next Synod session, with a vote slated for early next year.
