Uganda bus crash kills 21, injures dozens, school trips suspended

Uganda has suspended all school field‑trip programmes following a series of bus crashes that occurred during a return journey from a waterfall excursion. Authorities confirmed that at least twelve students sustained injuries, ranging from minor bruises to more serious fractures, after the buses collided on a winding mountain road near the tourist site. The incidents prompted an emergency review of the safety protocols governing student transport.

Investigations by the Ministry of Education and the Uganda Police Department are underway to determine the exact causes of the crashes, which are suspected to involve overloading and poor road conditions. In response, the Ministry has temporarily halted all school‑run field trips while it works with transport operators to implement stricter safety checks, enforce passenger limits, and improve driver training.
