UEFA says boycott could proceed after FA withdraws support for Infantino

UEFA said on Thursday that the endorsement of FIFA president Gianni Infantino by the world governing body at a meeting on Wednesday does not affect the European federation’s stance on ongoing governance issues. The comment was made in response to reports that FIFA had publicly backed Infantino during a closed session of the UEFA Executive Committee, a move UEFA described as “symbolic only” and without practical impact on its own decision‑making processes.

The UEFA Executive Committee, which met in Nyon to discuss the upcoming European Championships and the implementation of the new financial fair‑play regulations, reiterated that its policies and disciplinary procedures will continue to be applied independently of FIFA’s position. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin emphasized that the federation will maintain its existing governance framework and that any future actions concerning Infantino or FIFA will be evaluated on their own merits, not on external endorsements.
