UEFA launches disciplinary case against Guendouzi and Greenwood
Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Guendouzi and forward Phil Greenwood were seen making provocative gestures toward Lyon supporters at the conclusion of the Champions League playoff match held on Tuesday night. The incident occurred moments after the final whistle, when the home side secured a 2‑1 victory to advance to the group stage. Video footage circulated on social media showed Guendouzi extending his middle finger to a section of the crowd, while Greenwood mimicked a taunting salute in the same vicinity.
Both clubs issued statements condemning the behaviour and confirming that they will cooperate with UEFA’s disciplinary committee. The governing body has opened a formal investigation and warned that any sanctions could include fines, match bans or a requirement to issue public apologies. Lyon’s club also lodged a complaint, emphasizing the need for respect between players and supporters. The matter remains under review, with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
