Uber to Acquire Delivery Hero for $14.8 Billion, Doubling Global Reach
Uber has announced that it will acquire German‑based Delivery Hero in a $14.8 billion all‑stock transaction, a move that will almost double the rideshare giant’s global reach and establish one of the world’s largest food‑delivery platforms outside China. The deal, which has been approved by both companies’ boards, will merge Uber’s existing delivery operations in North America and Europe with Delivery Hero’s extensive network in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.
Delivery Hero, which operates brands such as Foodpanda, Talabat and Zomato in key markets, will retain its current management team and brand identities, while Uber’s leadership will oversee the combined entity’s strategy and operations. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, and will create a platform with more than 300 million active users and a combined order‑volume that rivals the likes of Alibaba’s Ele.me and Amazon’s Amazon Restaurants.
The acquisition positions Uber to compete more aggressively against regional leaders and to leverage synergies in logistics, technology and data analytics. By integrating Delivery Hero’s local market expertise with Uber’s global scale, the combined company aims to enhance service efficiency and expand its presence in high‑growth regions, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of the global food‑delivery industry.
