Typhoon Bavi forces evacuations in Taiwan, disrupts power in Okinawa

More than 14,000 residents in Taiwan were forced to evacuate their homes on Saturday as Typhoon Bavi swept across the island with heavy rain and sustained winds exceeding 120 km/h. The storm triggered flash flooding in low‑lying areas and prompted authorities to activate emergency shelters in several counties. Power outages affected thousands of households, while transportation services were suspended to reduce the risk of accidents on wet roads.

At the same time, Typhoon Bavi cut electricity to thousands of customers on Japan’s Okinawa islands as it moved northeast toward eastern China. Meteorological agencies warned that the system could bring strong gusts and additional rainfall to coastal provinces in China later in the week. Emergency officials in all three regions continue to monitor the typhoon’s progress and advise residents to remain prepared for further disruptions.
