Turning Point USA expands campus presence as Trump support falls among young men
Turning Point USA, the conservative student organization founded in 2012, announced the launch of 30 new campus chapters across the United States during the first quarter of 2024, bringing its total presence to more than 150 colleges and universities. The expansion includes partnerships with local student groups, increased funding for speaker events, and a new digital outreach platform aimed at recruiting members. The organization’s leadership cited a strategic focus on “building a pipeline of future leaders” and highlighted recent collaborations with business schools and political science departments to host debates and policy workshops.
Despite the growth, recent polling indicates a decline in former President Donald Trump’s popularity among young men. A Pew Research Center survey released in July 2024 showed support for Trump among males aged 18‑29 falling from 38 % in 2020 to 27 % in 2024, while favorability ratings dropped by roughly ten points over the same period. Analysts suggest that the waning enthusiasm for Trump may be prompting groups like Turning Point USA to broaden their appeal beyond the former president’s base, emphasizing broader conservative principles and career‑building opportunities for students. The organization’s expansion, therefore, appears aimed at sustaining a right‑leaning campus presence even as the demographic once most aligned with Trump’s brand of politics shows signs of disengagement.
