Turkey says Iran not target of Saudi‑Pakistan‑Turkey security pact

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Saturday that the NATO‑style alliance signed by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is not aimed at any particular nation, amid speculation that the pact was formed in reaction to the ongoing conflict in Iran. In an interview with the state‑run Anadolu Agency conducted a day after the three countries formalised the agreement, Fidan dismissed reports that the coalition was designed to counter Iranian influence in the region.

The trilateral accord, announced earlier this week, outlines a framework for military cooperation, intelligence sharing and joint exercises, mirroring the structure of NATO. While analysts had suggested that the pact could be a strategic response to Iran’s military posture, Fidan clarified that the alliance is intended to enhance collective security among the signatories without targeting any single state.

Fidan’s remarks underscore the Turkish government’s position that the agreement is a defensive partnership rather than a punitive measure. The statement is likely aimed at calming regional tensions and preventing misinterpretations of the new alliance’s objectives.
