Trump family crypto earnings exceed $1 billion in first year back in White House
Senate Banking Committee Chairman Elizabeth Warren and a group of Democratic lawmakers called on Congress to tighten regulations governing cryptocurrency activities by elected officials and their families after recent financial disclosures showed that the Trump family’s crypto investments generated more than $1 billion in the first year of Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The disclosures, part of routine ethics filings, revealed that the former president’s relatives earned sizable profits from a range of digital‑asset holdings, prompting Warren to label the situation “brazen crypto corruption” and to argue that existing rules are insufficient to prevent conflicts of interest.
Warren said the pending crypto‑related legislation moving to the Senate floor must explicitly bar the President, Vice President, senior administration officials, members of Congress and their immediate families from profiting from the cryptocurrency industry. She warned that without such safeguards, the law could “turbocharge” the alleged misconduct and erode public confidence in government. Lawmakers are now reviewing the proposal, which aims to close loopholes and impose stricter disclosure and divestiture requirements for public officials engaged in digital‑asset transactions.
