Toyota invests $3.6 billion to shift Tacoma pickup production to Texas

Toyota announced a $3.6 billion investment to relocate production of its popular Tacoma midsize pickup truck from its plant in Mexico to the company’s San Antonio manufacturing campus in Texas. The move will involve expanding the San Antonio facility and upgrading equipment to accommodate the Tacoma’s production line, according to Toyota’s spokesperson. The Tacoma, which has been a strong seller for Toyota, will now be built on the U.S. side of the border, potentially shortening delivery times to domestic markets. The investment also includes plans to create new jobs in the Texas region, with Toyota estimating that the expansion could add several hundred positions over the next few years.
