Tour de France final stage in Paris shortened due to wildfires

The Bastille Day parade in Paris has been shortened on Sunday, 14 July, to ease pressure on emergency services that are currently busy fighting a series of wildfires across the country. The decision, announced by the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Paris Police Prefecture, will reduce the parade’s duration and trim its route, limiting the number of troops and vehicles on the Champs‑Élysées.

The cut‑back comes amid a severe wildfire season that has stretched fire‑fighting units and emergency medical teams. By shortening the traditional 10‑kilometre march, authorities aim to free up police, fire, and medical personnel who would otherwise be required to secure the parade route and respond to incidents during the event. The revised schedule still preserves the main ceremonial elements, including the display of military hardware and the march past the Arc de Triomphe.

The adjustment reflects a prioritisation of public safety over spectacle, ensuring that emergency services can focus on the urgent wildfire crisis while the nation continues to celebrate its national holiday.
