Thea Energy receives $20 million ARPA‑E grant for fusion magnet production
Fusion power startup Thea Energy has been awarded a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency‑Energy (ARPA‑E). The funding is intended to accelerate the scale‑up of the company’s high‑temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology, a component that could enable more compact and efficient magnetic confinement systems for fusion reactors.
ARPA‑E’s investment will support Thea Energy’s efforts to transition its HTS magnets from laboratory prototypes to larger‑scale production, addressing material costs, manufacturing processes, and integration with fusion‑energy platforms.
