Tesla Cybercab Bans Children Under 13

Tesla has announced that its forthcoming robotaxi service will prohibit any passenger under the age of 13 from riding, even if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The company’s safety guidelines, released in a recent press briefing, state that children younger than 13 are not permitted to occupy any seat in the autonomous vehicles. This rule applies to all models slated for the robotaxi fleet, which will be based on the company’s Model Y SUV.

The restriction is notably stricter than Tesla’s current policy for the Model Y SUVs sold to consumers. In the retail version, the company allows children under 13 to ride as long as they are supervised by an adult, provided they are seated in a child seat or properly secured. By tightening the age limit for its robotaxis, Tesla is emphasizing a higher safety standard for its autonomous operations, citing the need for consistent passenger management in a fully driverless environment.

Industry observers note that the decision may affect the adoption rate of the robotaxi service, particularly among families.
