Temporary education centre opened for Nepal flood‑displaced children

Children displaced by recent flash floods in Nepal have been moved to a temporary education centre in Nuwakot, where they are receiving basic schooling while aid organisations mobilise resources for the affected communities. The makeshift facility, set up by local authorities and international partners, provides classrooms, meals and psychosocial support to hundreds of students who lost their homes and schools in the deluge that struck the region earlier this month.

The United Nations estimates that the floods have damaged approximately $158 million worth of buildings across the country, and Nepal’s government warns that the overall cost of reconstruction could run into the billions. Humanitarian agencies are coordinating relief efforts, focusing on shelter, water, sanitation and the restoration of essential services, as authorities plan longer‑term rebuilding strategies to mitigate future disaster impacts.
