Teen Withdraws Meta Lawsuit Days Before Trial

A lawsuit filed by a 15‑year‑old Florida teen, known in court as RKC, against Meta’s Instagram was withdrawn just days before its Los Angeles trial was scheduled to begin. The case had alleged that the platform’s design contributed to the boy’s depression and anxiety, adding to a growing wave of litigation targeting social‑media giants for allegedly creating addictive products that harm young users.

The suit named four defendants—Google’s YouTube, Meta’s Instagram, Snap Inc’s Snapchat, and ByteDance’s TikTok. Earlier this year, YouTube and TikTok settled their respective claims in June, while Snap reached a tentative settlement, according to Bloomberg. The terms of those agreements remain confidential. The withdrawal of the Instagram claim leaves Meta without a pending trial on the addictive‑product allegations, following its recent loss in a landmark case that found the company’s design features contributed to user harm.
