Taylor Farms Expands Iceberg Lettuce Recall to 27 States

Taylor Farms announced Wednesday that it is expanding a voluntary recall of shredded iceberg lettuce to include products distributed in 27 states after federal health officials traced the leafy green to a single supplier in central Mexico. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) earlier this week identified the lettuce as the likely source of an outbreak of a parasite that causes severe, “explosive” diarrhea, prompting the broader recall as a precautionary measure.

The expanded recall covers all shredded iceberg lettuce packaged under Taylor Farms’ brand names that were shipped between June 1 and June 15, the period during which the contaminated product is believed to have entered the U.S. market. Health officials have reported dozens of confirmed cases and several hospitalizations, though no deaths have been linked to the outbreak. Consumers who purchased the recalled lettuce are advised to discard it or return it to the point of sale and to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms. Taylor Farms said it is cooperating fully with the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration to investigate the source and prevent further distribution of the affected product.
