Syria kills militia commander linked to March coastal attacks and dismantles IS cells in Aleppo and al‑Bab

Security forces in Syria staged an operation near the coastal city of Jableh that resulted in the death of a militia commander accused of leading one of the assault units involved in the March 2025 attacks, along with a second suspect. According to official statements, the commander was lured into an ambush and killed during an exchange of fire, marking a targeted effort to dismantle the network behind the earlier assaults.

In separate coordinated actions, security agencies also dismantled Islamic State cells operating in the northern city of Aleppo and the eastern town of al‑Bab, arresting several operatives and seizing weapons and explosives. The combined operations are presented as part of a broader crackdown on militant groups linked to recent violence in the region.
