Sweden expels Iranian embassy staff over security concerns

Stockholm’s police and security services have warned that Iran‑backed extremist groups are planning attacks aimed at “Jewish and Israeli interests” within Sweden. The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) said its intelligence units have identified a network of individuals with ties to Tehran who are coordinating surveillance and recruitment activities targeting community centres, cultural institutions and diplomatic premises linked to Israel and the Jewish population.

Authorities have placed the suspected operatives under heightened observation and are working with international partners to disrupt any imminent plots. The investigation follows a series of similar threats across Europe, prompting Swedish officials to increase protective measures for vulnerable sites and to reassure the public that security resources are being allocated to prevent any violent act.
