Sudan army reports RSF advance on border town Kurmuk

Military and government officials reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias have moved into the town of Kurmuk, located in Sudan’s Blue Nile state. The advance was confirmed by sources from both the Sudanese armed forces and the central government, who said the paramilitary units entered the town early on Thursday, encountering limited resistance from local security forces.

The incursion comes amid a broader escalation of fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which has destabilized large parts of the country since the conflict erupted in April. Blue Nile, a strategically important region bordering Ethiopia, has seen repeated clashes over control of supply routes and border crossings. Authorities warned that the RSF’s presence in Kurmuk could disrupt humanitarian access and further strain the already precarious security situation in the area.
