Study finds fully virtual BCBA-delivered ABA improves adaptive functioning in autism

A study jointly conducted by AnswersNow and the Clemson Center for Behavior Analysis at Clemson University and published in JMIR Pediatrics and Parenting reports that fully virtual applied behavior analysis (ABA) services administered by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) are a feasible alternative to traditional in‑person therapy for families of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The research evaluated 504 participants who received remote ABA interventions, measuring changes in adaptive functioning over the study period.

Results indicate that 76 percent of the children demonstrated measurable progress in adaptive skills, and families reported high satisfaction with the virtual format. The findings suggest that remote ABA delivery can maintain therapeutic effectiveness while offering greater accessibility for families, potentially expanding service options for the ASD community.
