Spain Imposes Air and Sea Border Checks on Italy

Spain has announced that it will now impose border controls on all air and sea travel arriving from Italy, a move that follows similar restrictions imposed by Rome after a surge of migrants from Morocco entered the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The new measures will be applied to all flights and maritime vessels arriving from Italy, with authorities warning that the controls will be tightened further if the situation does not improve. The decision comes amid growing concerns over the flow of migrants across the Mediterranean and the strain on border security infrastructure.

The Spanish government cited the recent influx of migrants from Morocco as the primary reason for the heightened vigilance. In response, Italy had already introduced additional screening procedures for travelers heading to Spanish territories, citing security and humanitarian concerns. Both governments have pledged to cooperate on information sharing and to coordinate efforts to manage the migrant flow while maintaining compliance with international law and human rights obligations.
